Before I remind you of the exciting events taking place tomorrow during Lynn’s Hanse Day, I must mention a couple of important items so far not covered in this column.

West Norfolk is a lively place at the best of times but this year is proving to be a very special one, and it’s only May! One of the highlights of the year will surely prove to be the Bespak Grand East Anglia Run which was a great success last weekend. I congratulate all who took part and the team of volunteers who supported the event. Why not get involved next time? I assure you it’s great fun!

I was delighted when the distinguished and versatile musician Derek Oldfield, who lives locally, agreed to be the subject of this, one of our special That’s Entertainment columns, as I knew he had a diverse and fascinating career to share with us.

Despite the recent wet weather (and we are assured we need it!) let’s attempt to get out and about to begin with this week. Musical events at Great Massingham and Dersingham are our first destinations. You can be sure of an enjoyable evening when the vocal group Nobodyes Gigge are involved, and the music to be performed on the evening of Saturday, May 5, is Handel’s ever-popular Messiah (parts two and three). Stephen Pocklington directs and admission is £5 by programme. Messiah is not just appropriate at Christmas time, so get along to St Mary’s Church, Great Massingham, for 7pm and enjoy this wonderful music. The event is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
