ECOWARRIORS at Clenchwarton Primary School have had their green efforts recognised with an international award.
Pupils and staff are celebrating after their school, in Main Road, was granted the prestigious Eco-School bronze award after months of hard work.

North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham visited the school last week to present the plaque and see what green activities the children had been getting up to.

Year One teacher Nicola Preston said the school had two teams of children working in different areas.

Members of the first team acted as monitors, making sure pupils and staff turn off lights and equipment, shut doors and recycle, while a group of older children keep an eye on the amount of water and electricity used in school.

The second team of gardeners looks after the school's fruit trees, vegetable patch and compost bin. Teams are swapped around every half term and it is hoped every child in school will have a turn in each.

Mrs Preston said: "Eventually we hope to sell the fruit and vegetables to parents and give it to the school canteen, we have already had a rhubarb crumble.

"All the children have tried very hard and are very keen to carry on. They all tell us off for leaving lights on now!"

The school hopes to progress further with the scheme and is already working towards its silver award.

Mrs Preston added: "We invited Mr Bellingham to show him what we have achieved and I think he was impressed. The children showed him around because they are running it as much as they can."

Eco-Schools is an international awards programme which promotes environmentalism in 40 countries.
