HUNSTANTON great great-grandmother Norah O'Leary raises a glass to toast her 104th birthday.
Mrs O'Leary has been a resident at Driftwood House care home in Lynn Road for seven years and is its oldest resident. She is a former resident of Southend Road.

A mother of six, though two have sadly died, Mrs O'Leary also has 19 grandchildren, some 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was born in England, though spent her childhood in Newfoundland after her father, Mr Gerrard Wood, gained a headteacher post there.

She came home at 16 to study, however, gaining a degree in French from London University and later married, John, a librarian, who died in 1984.

A get-together for family and fellow residents was held at the home on her birthday, Thursday, August 7.

Around 30 people attended, including grandchildren Mrs Penny Wing and Miss Alexandra Wellard who had travelled from Spain and Belgium respectively.

Mrs O'Leary's only daughter, Mrs Roisin Wellard, of Poplar Avenue, Heacham, told the Lynn News she was a "marvellous mum" who was intelligent and kind.

Senior carer at Driftwood House Mrs Margaret Murton said: "She is very sprightly. She is very independent."

Another family party is planned for September.
