REGULAR charity bingos in Terrington St Clement have raked in more than £6,500 for good causes in the last year alone.
Kind-hearted resident Julie Gant (32) took over the running of the bingos in June 2006 and they have since become increasingly popular with villagers keen to enjoy a night out while making a difference.
In her first year the events, held in the vi
llage hall, raised £3,580, but last year saw the total almost double to £6,782.
Miss Gant, who runs her own cleaning company said: "I like to hold them at least twice a month. It's a lot of hard work, but some of the old people in the village don't get out much and they would miss them if I stopped. It's worth it."
The proceeds from each bingo go to a different charity and over the years donations have been made to national charities including Marie Curie Cancer Care and Cancer Research, as well as local good causes, such as the village scouts and guides groups.
Presentations have also been made to kidney charities, including the kidney patients' association at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. Miss Gant's father Colin had a kidney transplant around 28 years ago and she said it was a charity close to her heart.
Miss Gant, of Oxford Place, said her thanks went out to everyone who had donated prizes and her band of hardworking volunteers who made the bingos possible
Among the volunteers are Miss Gant's mother Wendy, brother Jason, sister Samantha Leggett, aunt Joan Day and cousin Sue day.
