Incinerator work goes to Dereham

ONE of the first contracts to build the proposed Lynn incinerator has been awarded to a company from Dereham.

The Cory Wheelabrator Consortium has applied to build the £500 million Willows Power and Recycling Centre at Saddlebow. A second public consultation is currently underway.

Cory says it has “demonstrated its commitment to working with Norfolk businesses” by selecting BAM Nuttall, from Dereham, for civil engineering work.

Cory says it is meeting with businesses looking to work on the project yesterday and today at the Eco-Tech Centre in Swaffham.

Norfolk County Council’s cabinet member for environment and waste Bill Borrett told a meeting on Monday that no formal contract has yet been signed between the county and Cory.

Cory says BAM Nuttall has begun to select and recruit sub-contractors to deliver the project’s engineering requirements, including piling and associated foundations, steelworks, cladding and ground works.

Paul Green, speaking on behalf of the consortium, said: “We are delighted to make this appointment as we’re committed to working with local businesses.

“This is just the start of numerous contract awards which we hope will be available to local businesses in the future.”

The Health Protection Agency announced this week that a new study will be looking at whether human health is affected by modern incinerators

Wake up and smell the coffee. The deal was done a long time ago and it had Cllr Brian Long's paw prints all over it. Now he has swung in another direction to avoid local political fall out. One week he says one thing and then he does another and then something else. Reading the minutes of this guy is like trying to work out a cryptic crossword. All that ever needed to be done from the outset (several years ago) was to go through the motions which is what we are seeing played out now.

Why would CW award a contract to Bam Nuttall when they haven't even signed a contract to build the thing yet? It's like booking a hotel when you're not even planning a trip!! They're just trying to convince the public that' it's a done deal. Sorry, we're not taken in.

Seems BAM Nuttall have counted their chickens before there hatched. With court cases due it could be five years before if any work starts.

There must be a significant amount of evidence to justify an inquiry into birth defects due to modern well run incinerators. Quite few options available. Build the incinerator and as a condition Cory Wheelabrator put aside $ billions for compensation. Build an MBT plant now to save the planet as natural resources are diminishing by burning.
