Castle Acre confirmations

SEARCHING through his family photographs, Cyril Daws (77), of Swaffham, uncovered this picture of himself and a group of other young churchgoers at Castle Acre on their confirmation day.

It was taken outside the parish vicarage in April 1946 after a ceremony was carried out by the Bishop of Thetford during a service at St James' Church.

Mr Daws recalls that the vicar at the time was the Rev Lacey-Webb and that it was a big day for everyone.

Mr Daws can be seen fourth from the right on the back row and has managed to name the others in the picture as, back row from left: Sidney Callaby, D. Creed, J. Mallot, L. Mallot, L. Creed, D. Clarke, S. Andrews, C. Daws, R. Stapleton, G. Pightling, R. Green.

Pictured middle row, from left, are E. Mallot, J. Fairweather, I. Harbour, J. Gore, D. Dye, P. Barnes, C. Barnes, N. Brown.

On the front row, from left, are E. Simpson, B. Muncey, D. Leist, J. Hilton, D. Creed, Pearl Barnes and M. Church.
