Ale’s well at new Stanhoe pub . . .
STANHOE has had its village pub transformed into a brand new venue going by the name of the Duck Inn.
Bucking the recent trend of village pub closures, the new landlord Julian Rivett hopes to bring back the traditional pub atmosphere where mature members of staff remember their customers’ names.
After several months of hard work and a naming competition on the village website, the Duck Inn was officially opened on July 2 this year, with tables booked for 28 people.
Appropriately, it is named after the famous village duck pond.
The pub has now taken on a modern look mixed with traditional features. New additions include two en-suite guest rooms, a 60 seat restaurant, a future caravan site and a large field which could become a wedding venue.
Mr Rivett estimates he has spent at least £200,000 on renovating and refurbishing the pub as it was in near ruin when he took over the licence. Since the opening in July, the restaurant has been busy, which Mr Rivett believes is down to the reasonable prices and fresh fish inspired menu that it offers.
