SCHOOL councillors learned about fair food production during a conference last week.

About 90 secondary and primary pupils were told about Fairtrade during a conference at Docking Primary School on Tuesday last week.

The event was organised for the Smithdon Cluster, which is made up of 13 schools around the Hunstanton area.

The school councillors, who were aged between five and 11, looked at Fairtrade products during the event and also played games. Six Year nine pupils from Smithdon High School also took part in the conference.

Liz Bowes, from Norfolk Education and Action for Development, helped to organise the session and Tesco Community Champion Sara Sayer also brought along some Fairtrade products.

Docking headteacher Rachael Williams said the event allowed youngsters to socialise as well as learn about food production.

She said: “They had lunch together and also made promises about how they would take the work back to their schools.”
