FAKENHAM: Campus cash award

Long-term plans to create a community campus in Fakenham have been boosted by an award of £94,388 from Norfolk County Council’s Community Construction Fund.

The project was initiated a year ago by Fakenham Area Partnership to renovate the complex of buildings centred on Fakenham Connect, the community centre and the town library.

It has long been recognised that the community centre is an under-used resource and the buildings and land around it in need of improvement. A community campus would aim to create a focus for activities appealing to young people, businesses, musical and theatrical groups, pre-school children, the elderly and the disabled.

Town mayor Janet Holdom, who is also chairman of the transition group behind the project, expressed her delight at the award which will enable lots of work to be carried out at the centre later this year. Priority would be given to smartening up the foyer, improving the toilet facilities and landscaping the surrounds.
