MAGDALEN: Your skills can help make a difference
Collection time for Tools for Self Reliance, LtoR, Ian Limbrick (Group Support Officer for TFSR), collecting from local volunteers, John Miles, Michael Bowden, Tony Osborn.
More volunteers are needed to sort through and refurbish a ton of donated hand tools to help people in African countries achieve self-sufficiency.
The consignment was taken on by the West Norfolk group of Tools For Self Reliance (TFSR) after the Nottingham branch closed down.
“We are desperate for help us and there must be people out there who have some spare time on their hands,” said John Wiles, who founded the local group with fellow retired teacher Tony Osborn some seven years ago.
“We meet at a workshop in Magdalen, but we’d be just as happy if someone wanted to work from home in their own workshop or shed.
“Some of the tools just need sorting and de-rusting and there’s a tea chest full of saws and chisels. We could really do with someone who can make chisel handles because several of them are split and they can’t be sent out like that.”
The main aim is to put together complete ready-to-use carpentry kits.
