LOCAL MP Elizabeth Truss and deputy town mayor Terry Jennison were the VIP visitors at Swaffham and District Lions’ annual Christmas party for senior citizens on Sunday.

Mrs Jennison welcomed the 115 OAPs from the area to Swaffham Hamond’s High School main hall, where they sat down to a three-course meal served at their tables.

Swaffham Lionesses had decorated the tables in true Christmas style, while a team of Lions and their wives set about preparing the meal under the expert guidance of Lions’ president Paul Southerton, a chef by profession.

The guests were collected from their homes by a fleet of minibuses and taken to the Brandon Road school, where they enjoyed a traditional meal of soup, turkey with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding with brandy sauce.

A team of Lionesses, in their bright red tops, served the guests with their meals, which were accompanied by wine and sherry.

Entertainment during the afternoon was provided by singing duet Class Act and pupils from Swaffham’s Sacred Heart School performing a series of dances.

Ms Truss, the SW Norfolk MP, mixed and chatted with guests at the party and, following the free raffle, the Lions and Lionesses sang Christmas carols.
