West Lynn: Public consultation on retirement village bid

RESIDENTS will be able to learn more about plans to build a retirement village at a public consultation later this month.

PrimeLife has applied to build a £16 million development, comprising three care homes and 18 cottages on land off St Peter’s Road, West Lynn.

The project, if approved by West Norfolk Council, could create 150 new jobs.

PrimeLife will be explaining its plans during a consultation in St Peter’s Church Hall, West Lynn, on Friday, February 17, from 3pm to 7pm.

New developments manager Simon van Herrewege said the project has received a good response so far and he is urging residents to go along and find out more.

Mr van Herrewege said: “I think people are quite pro care village because of a lack of modern care facilities and employment opportunities.

“Members of our communications team will be there and the architect.

“There will also be the team which will be leading the project.

“It will be a very rounded event in terms of what we are looking to bring with regards to the environment and our ethos of care and the benefits for the surrounding community.”

The firm is hoping to build a 70-bedroom residential care home with social centre, two 60-bedroom care homes along with 18 independent cottages.

The site had previously had permission for 149 houses.

The West Lynn development could provide respite, dementia and palliative care along with providing support for people who wanted to live independently in the cottages.

The development is expected to take 14 to 15 months to complete if granted.

Secretary of West Lynn Residents’ group Don Ely says the development has gone down well with some parts of the village.

Mr Ely had also said that villagers were pleased that it is not another housing estate.

He said: “Most residents who have spoken to me about it or asked me about it, have considered it to be something that they would be very interested in.

“It is something that is very positive and hopeful not just for West Lynn but for the whole area.”

PrimeLife has already built developments in Lincolnshire, Rutland, Leicestershire and Hull. This could be one of five PrimeLife projects being put forward for Norfolk.
