Fine frocks and hats at Magdalen fete
WEST Winch resident Brian Elflett thought readers would be interested in this picture of a garden fete who took place at Magdalen vicarage.
The photograph dates from the early 1930s. Featured is his great grandmother, Martha Ann Brown, third from the right in the second row.
Mr Elflett (75) of Gravel Hill Lane, said the black and white photograph came into his possession following the death of his mother, Nellie (93), three years ago.
She lived at Meadow Road, South Wootton, and Mr Elflett found it among her belongings.
Many of the faces on the photograph have been identified by Mr Elflett– although some are missing.
They are, front row, from left: Doug Cornwell, Maurice Green, Mrs Matt Green, Mrs Lambert, Mavis Richer and Mrs Whitrick.
Second row, from far left, are: unknown, Violet Whitrick (Mrs Whitrick's daughter), Gladys Kemp and Marjorie Connor.
The next three women in line, before Mr Elflett's great grandmother, are unknown.
Mrs Richer with Gordon, then Mrs Redington, complete the line-up.
In the back row are Eric Petchell and Josie Stibbon.
