And now, for all you groovers out there
DOES anyone out there have a copy of a CD called Shakers and Groovers, Snap, Crackle and Pop, Volume 1?
Closure of Pulse8 is not in public interest
THE powers-that-be at the College of West Anglia have been undertaking a “review” of the decision to close Pulse8.
I always listen to the views of residents
I AM writing in response to the recent correspondence in your letters page regarding the planning approval recently granted for the Islamic Centre on London Road. In one letter I was criticised for not doing more than I did.
Let him go to Holland now
I THINK the chap Rob Archer talks about in Two Wheels Good (Lynn News, Friday, May 11), Mike Penning, should be sent to Holland immediately, and see for himself how well built and safe the roads are there.
Where there’s muck . . .
LIKE A lot of young men 50 years ago, when I left school I worked on the land. One of the farms I worked on grew over 100 acres of potatoes, with a good yield every year, without any sort of irrigation.
You should not be surprised
I WAS surprised to read of your correspondents’ dismay at being ignored by the council on the matter of the Islamic Centre.
Let’s hear it for St Martha’s
I WAS travelling back from Cambridge on the 4.39pm train on Thursday, May 3.
Aged 70, but such a buzz from GEAR
IF anyone who ran in or went to watch or support the GEAR run and got caught up in the wonderful atmosphere and desires more, then read on.
Up to the borough to protect us all . . .
IT WAS heartening to read Straight Talk today (May 8) and much credit is due to the Lynn News for your courageous stand.
Double standards?
WHY ARE West Norfolk Council against the incinerator when they have already given permission for Palm Paper to build their own incinerator right next door?
Cutting and running
THE Conservative colleagues of Cllr Derrick Murphy at County Hall must be dreadfully disillusioned by, and ashamed of, his latest decision.
That’s a perilous car park
I KNOW this is not a problem of yours BUT do you ever visit the shops in the Woottons?
Does honesty pay?
I READ in last Friday’s Lynn News (Court Register) about people owing up to £3,000 in council tax. How can the council allow people to get in so much debt? When they miss one payment why don’t they do something about it then? If they can’t pay one month, how are they going to pay thousands.
Time to help the people’s bank
I HAVE a message to the new Mayor – give the West Norfolk Community Bank a home.
The stones of the Crowes
I AM trying to trace any remaining descendants of the Crowe family from the Terrington St Clement area.
Dog laws should tackle owners not animals
AT the end of last month the Government launched a public consultation on tackling irresponsible dog ownership. However, the flimsy package of measures published on April 23 falls way short of tackling this very real problem.
Drivers, have a care . . .
COULD I please remind Lynn’s drivers to think when driving in the rain about where the puddles on the roads are, and where the pedestrians on the pavement are, and do us the courtesy of slowing down and not soaking us as we’re walking along?
A public road is just that
YOU have again reported on people complaining about parking in access only roads.
Welcome, friends
THE North West Norfolk Constituency Labour Party welcomes all races and cultures; we celebrate diversity. As such we welcome the proposed transformation of a run down pub into an Islamic community centre and we look forward to forging stronger links with this section of the community as we do with others.
Wind farm traffic ‘will put safety at risk’
AS has previously been reported in The Lynn News, Falck Renewables has submitted plans to develop a wind farm on land between the two villages of Terrington St Clement and Clenchwarton.
4 commentsIs this the death of democracy then?
HERE in Norfolk we had a referendum about an EfW incinerator being foisted on us. Some 65,000 people voted, 97 per cent against the proposal. And yet NCC is going ahead with plans.
Who is talking to who?
I WAS interested in your article “Wedding Plans Spark Strong Opposition (Friday, April 27).
2 commentsMy Muslim friends . . .
BORN and raised in Lynn, and now living in Luton, I was outraged to hear Stephen Tweed’s comments about the Queen’s Arms becoming an Islamic centre.
Saving The Walks
IN answer to recent letters/articles in the Lynn News, the heart sinks when we read of Councillor David Pope’s opinions regarding the proposed parkour development in The Walks.
Cyclists are a law unto themselves
IN his latest rant about the hard done by, non-road tax paying, non-insured cyclists, Rob Archer advocates cyclists being allowed to break the law.
7 commentsWell done Lynn Town . . . now let’s plan for the future
LYNN manager Gary Setchell spoke well of how things have ended up this season. His tribute to Long Buckby FC tells you just what sort of a decent sporting attitude this man has. Makes a change from some previous coaches who blame everything other than the fact that there are other teams out there intent on winning, too.
Can you help the Swaffham firemen?
MY name is Wayne Frohawk. I am a firefighter from Swaffham and I need help! Myself and some of my colleges are doing
I organised petition but was not allowed to speak
I ORGANISED the 735- signature petition against the change of use proposal regarding the Islamic Centre. I attended the council meeting and am disgusted that –
Ignored once again . . .
DESPITE compelling and persuasive arguments against the Islamic Centre, some councillors still defied common sense and voted through a wholly impractical application.
I have a plan . . .
WELL it seems to me the only way to get what you want is to have hundreds of people oppose it! So all you people who want to keep Plaxtole House and Providence Street Youth Centre, campaign against it and it will be kept! Simples.
Have they missed the point?
FOLLOWING the recent South Lynn incinerator consultation, an Environment Agency officer asked the public “have we missed something”.
Let’s celebrate Plaxtole House
AS reported in the Lynn News, the College of West Anglia in King’s Lynn is proposing to close a unique facility for young people with learning disabilities – Plaxtole House, in Goodwins Road.
Smithdon students just got on with it . . .
HAVING recently spent a day with a group of 50 Year 10s from Smithdon High School, Hunstanton, who were experiencing an Army activity day as part of the school’s reward programme for high achievement, I should like to congratulate the school on the quality of the students and the opportunities given to them.
Cory: They would shut us down if we failed on emissions
WE would like to respond directly to concerns recently published in the Lynn News regarding the proposed Willows Power & Recycling Centre.
Dialysis unit was special for us
I WAS very saddened to read of the problems of one of your readers regarding his dialysis at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Eyesores a-plenty
HOW I agree with the comments of Bernadette Chappell from The Deck of Cards regarding the eyesore of the abandoned Hog’s Head in the High Street.
The wettest drought . . .
GIVEN that we are supposed to be in the wettest drought for many years, with a hosepipe ban and threats of £1,000 fines, I would like answers to three questions.
Hush-hush policy by the Royal Navy on those disasters
I WAS very interested to read your article on Kevin Wood’s father Jim, who was on the submarine HMS Affray when she was lost with all hands in the English Channel (Lynn News, Tuesday, April 24).
Why those stairs were no problem
MAY I thank Anne Greeves and Margaret Fox, president and chairman of KLODS (King’s Lynn Operatic and Dramatic Society) and members of KLODS committee and the Arts Centre staff for arranging a stair walker chair both down to the Undercroft for the KLODS supper, and later to the theatre.
Pulse8 has been such a boost
I AM writing to you regarding the proposed closure of the Pulse8 gym at the College of West Anglia.
Why those stairs were no problem
MAY I thank Anne Greves and Margaret Fox, president and chairman of KLODS (King’s Lynn Operatic and Dramatic Society) and members of KLODS committee and the Arts Centre staff for arranging a stair walker chair both down to the Undercroft for the KLODS supper, and later to the theatre. Quite an experience, and all undertaken with the minimum of fuss.
Very best of care
HAVING read your article about Mr Parker’s issues with his father’s dialysis, I would like to say that my father was a patient at the dialysis unit at the QEH for 10 years and received nothing but the best of care and attention during this time regardless of whether he was at home or an inpatient at the hospital.
Alf’s care was so good
Following the recent loss of my husband of almost 67 years, Alf (aged 88) I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have sent cards of condolence or left gifts of flowers.
Big Eye was spot on with care home piece
I certainly don’t want to give The Big Eye a poke in the eye but would rather congratulate whoever wrote Tuesday’s column for a fine, highly topical piece of journalism, far more worthy than a lot of the national tabloids.
Ideal home example to developers
The restored house in Checker Street, featured on the front page of Lynn News Property (April 12) is a fine example of the way period properties in Lynn’s conservation areas should be handled.
South Lynn’s ‘clean’ secret
I have some information which might delight some of your readers. The Harding’s Way “bus lane” is open for commuting to town!
Thought was wide of mark
RE: Dr E Salter’s article in Thought for the Week in the Citizen on April 11 on behalf of the Humanists.
