Fundraising felt good

Thank you to everybody who supported our Feel Good Day on April 27 in Downham Market Town Hall. Unfortunately the weather was not very kind to us so attendance was perhaps a bit down, but there did seem to be a steady stream of people enjoying the stalls and treatments on offer and relaxing with their friends over a cup of tea or coffee and delicious cakes.

News from the wrong areas

For the attention of Mr English and Mr Rodwell (Lynn News, May 7)

Money could be better spent

So the scheme to change the Tuesday Market Place later this year to create a ‘cafe culture’ is to go ahead at a cost of £890,000.

Memories of WW2 shelter

Regarding the story (Lynn News, May 10) of the air raid shelters hidden under the Tuesday Market Place.

Petition to disclose detail

I just signed the petition “Norfolk County Council: Release in full the redacted information in the Incinerator contract.” on Change.org.

A pricked conscience

I was driving from the B1145 to Leziate on Wednesday when I noticed what looked to be a masonry type slab half on the pavement protruding over the road I swerved around it then thought I had better return to it and move it from being an obstruction.

Breaking rules

Freebridge are breaking the rules by letting properties to families with the incorrect number of children.

A&E not the sole focus

Are our hospital and community services as well organised and resourced as they need to be?

Stalwart gains just rewards

Congratulations to John Crisford of Hunstanton who has been appointed National Chairman for the Royal British Legion.

Penalty clause blackmail

The “penalty clause” looks like a threat to force the democratically rejected incinerator on us by blackmail.

Never had it so good

Your correspondent from Buckinghamshire (Lynn News April 26) got it right when he said there was plenty of cheap parking here. Compared with some places Lynn is fine.

Lots of places to park here

In answer to Wendy Twite’s letter (Lynn News, May 3), eateries are a good investment for King’s Lynn; people eat, shop and spend.

Big reasons to bury burner

This latest Nar-Ouse project cannot be to the latest exemplary environmental standards, with its close proximity to a Cory Wheelabrator incinerator and also especially its adjacent proximity to the Saddlebow roundabout, where all the HGV vehicle movements will be depositing their emissions.

Disabled bays blue badge only

I am getting very tired of the excuses of people who park in disabled parking bays, which in my experience is anything from police vehicles and delivery vans to private cars etc.

Tax not much of a saving

This Bedroom Tax”will only save £500 million a year out of a housing benefit budget of £23,000 million a year.

They told us it was fixed now

Regarding the story Villagers face £60k VAT bill (Lynn News, May 3) Snettisham Parish Council seems to be blaming everyone else for their mistakes.

UKIP put to the test

The United Kingdom Independence Party is not made up of clowns or fruitcakes as labelled by some senior Tories.

Labour really did very well

As an active member of the North West Norfolk Constituency Labour Party I’d like to thank all those who did vote in the county council elections.

Spinney must stay

So William Searle and the Hunstanton Chamber of Trade want to turn the Spinney into a focal point, meeting and performance area with the scope for occasional markets.

Who will pay the £20m?

Now the Conservatives have no overall control on Norfolk County Council, the council can cancel the contract for the incinerator for Lynn and the £20million amendment clause in the contract.

Voters end up paying for it

After the incinerator fiasco of borough council Conservatives fighting county council Conservatives using our money, we had the ambulance service changes leading to patient deaths.

Politics

Perhaps this time, it will

Thank you for your votes

I am writing to thank those kind people in the Docking electoral division who voted for me in the recent county council elections.

All shapes and sizes

I counted them out and I counted them back. I am of course referring to those magnificent charity runners in GEAR.

Running for Macmillan

Thank you to anyone who put on their running shoes and ran GEAR for Macmillan.

Why stop this volunteer?

As a resident of Dersingham since 1975, a taxpayer and voter, I would like to know the reasonings, actions, costs and conclusions over the parish council’s recent decision to report the voluntary work undertaken at our war memorial to the police (Lynn News May 3).

Disabled bays for blue badge only

I am getting very tired of the excuses of people who park in disabled parking bays, which in my experience is anything from police vehicles and delivery vans to private cars etc.

Will they drag them this year?

Is it too much to hope that with the new financial year now started something will be done about the dykes here in Clapper Lane, Clenchwarton?

Protest against Bedroom tax

Recent research by Shelter found that more than eight million people were just one payday away from not being able to pay their rent or mortgage, and thus becoming homeless.

Solution to TV problem

In reply to Richard English’s letter asking why the BBC news channel for the King’s Lynn area is Look North and not Look East, there is a way round this.

Statements lack depth

Jeffrey Reed’s letter (Lynn News April 26) contains a number of points which fail to stand up to scrutiny.

Droning on

Given Big Eye’s view regarding drones (Lynn News, April 30), I assume he would agree with those who are afraid to wear a crucifix in public, or refer to Christmas as “the holidays” for fear of upsetting minority groups.

Shame on the non-voters

Shame on you, Freebridge voters.

Residents only scheme please

I live on Railway Road, Lynn and park outside my flat in a car space and sometimes on a hard service area next to the spaces, not blocking or causing congestion at all.

Two candidates not democracy

On Thursday I went to cast my vote for the borough council by-election at the Friends Meeting House polling station.

No point in the eateries

The council makeover plans for the Tuesday Market Place are OK for the zebra crossings but what is the point for eating places?

Give them a job at Cory

I read some of the letters from supporters of the incinerator (Lynn News, April 26) and it occurred to me that because of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by the writers if they don’t already work for Cory Wheelabrator perhaps they should apply for a job.

Greed over town parking

Have King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Council finally gone over the edge?

All change

You report that Lloyds Bank is to split its two branches in town (Lynn News, April 30).

Can’t wait to be living here

We recently visited King’s Lynn to see if we would like to retire here from Buckinghamshire. We want to see out our days in a less crowded part of the UK and I do have links to North Norfolk.

Not assuming responsibility

The dog warden service is provided by the council to deal with all aspects of responsible dog ownership, to help with promoting the safety of people and dogs thus helping to prevent accidents caused by straying dogs.

Confusing messages

I have written before, as have other readers, about the problem of irresponsible drivers ignoring speed restrictions in our area, especially with the unacceptably high level of casualties in a short period of time.

Excellent information

May I thank the Queen Elizabeth Hospital IBD team and NACC who put on an excellent information day at our local hospital on Saturday.

More police on roads please

I read in full the column by Supt Carl Edwards (Lynn News, April 26) about cutting road deaths.

Give traders a decent position

On March 5 I wrote to West Norfolk Council to say how concerned I was that certain Tuesday Market traders were not offered prominent positions while the Mart was with us.

Too old for teething

So we’re now a month into the new waste collection service by Kier and apparently they are still having these supposed “teething problems” (Lynn News, April 23).

Strong case for a pedal bin

Concerning the borough council’s new food waste collection enterprise, I feel there is a strong case for a pedal bin to speed the service.

Search through your old LPs

I would like to thank everyone who bought the CD, Let’s Go Back Vol I, helping to make it the success it became, raising £1,055 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Framework a poor policy

The new National Policy and Planning Framework has not been thought through and is at best misguided and at worst profoundly destructive.
