Two years ago we took a number of items to a valuation day at a local hotel. They were all taken, with our agreement, for further examination.

We received an offer of £130 for everything. This we refused and paid the return carriage costs. Then Antiques Roadshow came to RAF Marham and we took a couple of the items along. We were stunned to find that one object was made by Faberge. It has just sold at auction giving us, after all expenses, more than £7,000. So beware of some of these valuation days, what they do is not illegal as you can, like us, refuse their offer. If you think something really is of value, contact a reputable auction house.
