Bombs - Common was used as a range

Re the young lad who found the bomb on Roydon Common (Lynn News, December 28). It is quite likely he will find more!

The book about RAF Great Massingham in 1943 states, “Bombing Grimston Range, 10,000ft”. In 1944 I returned to Grimston from London and quite a few of the RAF men were involved in that job, not that they ever spoke about it.

Between 1962 and 1980, Grimston post office was in Lynn Road (in my garden) and some time during that time the common was being cleared of those bombs, I think by Ukrainians from the Thetford area. Once a week, an Army lorry would stop and these gentlemen would come into the post office for their wages on their way to work on the common.

I wonder how many of these brave men are still alive.
