Model way for a hero to relax
WE have all endured the ups and downs of modelling, and, no doubt, enjoyed the therapeutic benefits of the hobby, being able to escape from life’s troubles for a few hours. But it is only recently that this has taken on a whole new meaning.
As a member of the model making club West Norfolk IPMS (wnipms.org), I am involved with the Bridge for Heroes charity, running model making afternoons at their drop-in centre in King’s Lynn.
There we give modelling tips and advice and practical help, and this has met with considerable success.
I had never considered how the hobby I enjoyed could bring such changes to people who have endured so much in some of the world’s most dangerous hotspots.
To witness these changes first hand is gratifying, yet humbling, to think that this relatively simple hobby could achieve so much.
So the next time you are working away in your hobby room, spare a thought for those for whom this hobby has changed their lives.
