My dad at Grimston PO
IT is so sad to hear the news of the closure of Grimston Post Office.
Sad for all the people and pensioners of Grimston, Pott Row, Roydon and Congham.
Has any thought gone into this? How are people who can’t drive going to get to Gayton or Hillington to collect their pension?
Our father ran the post office for almost 40 years and his father before him. He also did a post round on his bike, including Christmas morning, before opening up the post office at 9am. A postage stamp then was tuppence half-penny (old money). No first or second class then. He had to retire in 1963 due to ill health. My sister still lives in the house that joined the post office.
It then moved to Lynn Road and was run by a Mr Driver before moving to Grimston Stores, and now the Royal Mail has decided to close it after all these years, without a thought to the elderly whatsover.
