Night time questions at QEH
AN article in the Lynn News (January 6) reported a solicitor describing her client as “more of a nuisance” when he resisted removal in A&E at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
I read this with great concern especially after witnessing an elderly but very mobile patient distressing staff and other patients when I was admitted to Necton Ward recently.
Eventually he hit out at night staff, hurting and reducing female nurses to tears.
I do realise some people may not have the upbringing or mental capacity to know better, but I share concern with other patients over what we considered an apparent lack of security and reporting procedures.
Speaking to a supervisor/ manager the next day, the indications were that these shortcomings were likely in the name of budget economies.
I write to highlight this state of affairs and to express my thanks to the wonderful nursing and general hospital staff that surely deserve better support and consideration.
Is it also not worrying that our courts seem not to deal more firmly with those who are prosecuted for breaching the hospital’s zero tolerance policy?
