Politics - We are all in this together

I was reading an article the other day and I came across that oft-used phrase by those whose allegiance is with the Labour Party, referring to “these millionaires we have in government”.

Yes, I vote Conservative, but I fail to see why this comment is used so much to-day as a derogatory description of MPs and ministers in the Government. There have always been millionaires in past governments, and they exist in the Labour Party, even if they do not advertise the fact, as well as elsewhere in politics.

I suppose the emphasis on rich people at the moment is due to the financial mess everybody is suffering from or grappling with.

Apart from a very few lucky people we all start the same in this world and we make our way by hard work and ingenuity, and those who manage to be successful, get rich. Yes, there are many very ingenious and hard working people who do not succeed and they are no doubt disappointed, but not too many of them blame the rest of the world for their failure.

When I say “lucky people”, I do not mean sons of rich fathers. Yes, they are lucky their fathers were successful, but they are certainly entitled to inherit the family fortune.

It is my belief that most parents work hard all their life in an endeavour to give their children a good start, how is a millionaire any different?

I would admit you are lucky if you happen to like the job you work hard at and that is probably the explanation for those in a mundane job not enjoying the success story of others.

Let us call a truce and try to help them to get us out of this mess the country is in, after all, who else can we ask?
