That was a freaky Friday . . .

I’D like to take this opportunity to reassure your readers about the safety of West Norfolk following the front page article in Tuesday’s Lynn News (Fear on Friday, February 6).

The pictures shown were of two entirely separate incidents. The first was of a carefully planned police-led operation where firearms officers from West Norfolk were assisting Lincolnshire Police in arresting two men wanted for a serious crime in their county.

The events illustrated our committed to identifying and detaining offenders, no matter where a crime may have been committed, and to protecting our local community.

The other picture was of a later incident on Purfleet Street. Officers attended following reports of an assault from members of the public but, when spoken to, the alleged victim refused to confirm his identity or pursue a complaint.

Now that we have had access to these CCTV pictures we are actively trying to identify those involved and bring any offenders to justice.

We would be grateful for anyone who may have any information about this incident to contact us on the 101 non-emergency number.

Although they did occur on the same day, both incidents are unusual for King’s Lynn and West Norfolk and we have actually seen great success in reducing crime generally, and specifically violent crime, in the borough.

While seeing police officers out on the streets can be interpreted as intimidating or that we live in an unsafe place, I can assure your readers that by getting more officers out on the streets we are helping to reduce crime and make our area an even safer place.

SUPT DAVE MARSHALL

West Norfolk Police

Editor’s note: The article made it very clear that these were two separate incidents. The fact that it was unusual for two events of that nature to take place on the same day was exactly what made it news.
