This road is a real eyesore

When the work to turn our lovely cycle/foot way across Hardings Pits into a sweeping road was about to commence three years ago, I had to be restrained from camping out in front of the diggers and lying across the road to stop the work starting. It was only the repeated reassurances that this cycle/ busway would never be opened to public traffic that held me back from such a demonstration and has helped me cope with the eyesore that we now have, as well as buses coming across the Pits too fast and the loss of a very safe pedestrian and cycle path.

I was horrified to see the stream of car headlights coming towards me as I crossed over Hardings Way on Friday night. I now read in the Lynn News that Norfolk Green “allowed” the police to open it. To open it up to a one-way line of cars was an incredibly dangerous action given that the route serves more pedestrians and cyclists than it even does buses. To open up this route in such a way would have needed changes to its legal status and any cars that went down it that night were surely driving illegally.

This route is not Norfolk Green’s to control. They would surely have denied any liability if an accident had been caused that night. The route goes right past a local school and it was opened up to general traffic at 3pm. A few minutes less in a traffic jam worth a child’s life? I may get my tent out of the loft yet.
