Walk for Baden

I WOULD like to thank everyone who sponsored me for completing the Peter Scott Walk of 17km on Sunday, May 10.

I raised 80 towards the restoration of the Baden Powell, the first boat built by the Worfolk family in Lynn. It is also believed to be the only double-ended fishing smack, built by Walter Worfolk, in existence, hence the urgency to save it from destruction.

Sunday dawned a beautiful sunny day and at 10am I assembled with 15 others at the Lighthouse at Sutton Bridge. It was a wonderful day. The larks were singing, the sand martins were sweeping over our heads and the butterflies were active on the cow parsley. I also saw shelducks, gulls, herons and mallards. I was the oldest on the walk and, with the help of a friend, I arrived at West Lynn at 4pm to a welcoming party. I also had the privilege of picking the winner in the draw and the prize went to our youngest walker. It was a truly memorable occasion.
