What a team effort for kids in hospital

I AM a parent of a child who spends a fair amount of time in hospital on Rudham Ward. We were last in for several weeks in December.

Through your pages, I would like to thank every person who has raised money or donated gifts for the children in hospital over Christmas.

During the period we were there, two groups of bikers from motorcycle clubs arrived laden with gifts, presents arrived from a Co-op, representatives from RAF Marham appeared with a huge box of craft supplies, the money being raised from cake baking and other means and then discounted by the Early Learning Centre.

Other gifts arrived from a care home and it was an exciting day when a cage full of cuddly dogs and teddies arrived donated by the customers of Matalan.

How kind of all these people to use their time to raise the money, to buy or collect the toys and to wrap and deliver them, not to mention giving them to complete strangers. I am humbled by the generosity.

I want you all to know how it cheered up my child and how excited he was to receive a gift and there was always one left for his sister who finds our frequent hospital stays a difficult time too.

Another thank you to the cast of Cinderella who took time out from their heavy schedule at The Corn Exchange to entertain us and gave chocolates and toy pumpkins to the children.

Staying in hospital is never easy. We don’t choose to go in and at Christmas time it is even more difficult. However, the ward was decorated beautifully and the staff as always did as much as they could to make it as nice as possible, so my very grateful thanks to all you who gave, be it gifts or time.

Also, my thanks to Jim, who regularly volunteers on Rudham and to a very funny lady who goes by the name of Crazy Bananas who appears when you don’t expect her.

May you all have a Happy New Year.
