Why I fear for Henry’s seat
THIS is a copy of a letter I haver written to Henry Bellingham MP.
I am most concerned with the strength of local opinion against the likelihood of the incinerator being built in this area. In fact, I fear for your seat in the future.
Many people are now calling for a vote of “no confidence” in our local councillors who are not speaking for the local population. My objections are the following:
Health: The increase in air pollution will affect the many thousands of residents who have respiratory problems, particularly those with asthma.
Transport: The increase of transport in and out of the proposed site, on a notorious bottleneck, will have an enormous effect. The roads around there are unable to cope now.
Location: Whatever Cory’s assurances about emissions from this incinerator it is not known what effect this could have on the area.
The Wash is a Site of Special Interest and the historic fishing industry is already struggling to survive.
I would also like to know whether Mrs Spelman considered the views of Defra, the Environment Agency and the Crown Estates on the impact to the area and also why Norfolk County Council was able to avoid having the incinerator closer to their base in Norwich.
The local district councils who supported siting the incinerator in Lynn were only thinking of their own interests.
Need: How long will it be before Cory starts taking rubbish from Suffolk, Cambridge and Lincolnshire to meet their targets? To maximise profits they will have to add refuse from other areas. West Norfolk could become the waste dump of the country.
You have, irrespective of party politics, always worked hard for West Norfolk and put our interests to the forefront, especially with your support for the fishing industry and, for me personally, your support for True’s Yard. Please try to delay the planning application until more consultation takes place.
The way our vote against this application was ignored was insulting and makes a nonsense of David Cameron’s pledge for power to shift to the local population. It was just hot air.
