Would this work for Lynn and Hunny?

I HAD the pleasure as a youngster to ride the Lynn to Hunstanton line when it had steam trains.

There was mum, dad, sisters, bucket and spade and sandwiches. It was magical, like Harry Potter.

Some of the trains had so many carriages that if you was in the rear of the train you had to walk through the to get to the platform to get off.

So are these people who want to re-open the line thinking of a tourist attraction or a public service? Remember it was the winter time that killed off the old line.

So let’s tick some boxes. Yes if you go onto Google maps you can follow the old line and yes there is possibly 90 per cent of the route still there.

Next roads, rivers, tracks and fencing to keep livestock off the line. This has to be considered.

And are there any control crossings, bridges or any of the signal systems or electric cables left? No.

So would the line just be from Lynn to Hunstanton? It would save some problems if that was the case.

So what about a monorail? Roads rivers, tracks would be easy to cross and the line could be high enough so farmers could pass under and still use the land.

You could still build stations along the way if you wanted. So are they talking about a tourist or public service?

No good as a bus lane either. Too expensive, there's already a route which takes in the villages and no Bus Co, would take it on. Just drop this stupid topic.it ain't gonna happen. Please King's Lynn let's celebrate the 21st Century and not live in the past!

I presume you mean the mono-rail idea, nice to think about but as you are saying a bit of a fantasy, but to use it as a bus route is not so much of a fantasy, and entirely possible.

Because it will never happen, not even be considered and is downright idiotic in concept!

I find it a bit harsh to describe it as Lunacy,it is merely an illistration of another take on re-opening the line.We all know that in truth to build a mono-rail would be far to costly, but there are other options available.I mean if they eventually get the pier rebuilt then we could run a ferry from Lynn to Hunstanton,no expensive rails needed for that. Or has anyone looked into the possibility of just turning it into a bus lane, which would just use conventional buses, and could be an addition to the normal bus that goes round the villages.I seem to vaguely remember seeing bus tracks on the news a few years ago,in the Cambrige area i believe? Cheapest option so far i think, but the ferry would be nice in the summer.

This is absolute lunacy. Do you know of any monorails currently operating in the UK? The above rail in the picture is a rollercoaster not suitable for a 16.5 mile route. Who do you expect to pay for this? The campaigners think they can have a heritage line which will offer a commuter service. The figure of 50p per mile is consistent with heritage rail fares on NNR, MNR and NYMR therefore it would be priced at £15 return minimum, totally unacceptable for commuters. Speed restrictions on heritage lines is 25mph maximum therefore the journey would be in excess of an hour including stops. Its an impossible dream that will never be realised as Hunstanton is not half way to achieving critical mass for a railway terminus therefore unviable. Please do not encourage these campaigners with hairbrained schemes like these. In answer to your question, Would this work for Lynn and Hunny? No a rollercoaster would not work for Lynn and Hunny!
