A BEXWELL blood donor who has made 75 donations has received an engraved crystal plate for his life-saving actions.
Colin Horton was among more than 50 East Anglian donors to receive awards during a special evening at Homerton College, Cambridge.

The awards were presented by Dianne Stracey who gave a moving speech about her battle with leukaemia and how important blood donations have been during the course of her treatment.

The awards dinner is a way of thanking the most loyal donors from across the region who give blood simply for the benefit of others.

Officials at the national Blood Service admit that donors can never truly be rewarded for their years of loyalty and dedication, adding that some donors have been giving blood, come rain or shine, for more than 40 years.

Each donation has the potential to save up to three lives, and each of the award winners could lay claim to saving the lives of at least 225 people.

"It's a great honour for everyone at the National Blood Service to be able to recognise the achievements of these donors," said the NBS's Ruth Greenaway.

To find out more about giving blood, to register as a donor or to make an appointment, contact the NBS helpline on 0845 7711711. Alternatively you can log on to www.blood.co.uk
