A SITE visit prompted West Norfolk Council planners to shelve controversial plans for a ten-flat development in Downham.
Applicant Stephen Lilley hoped to build the one and two-bedroomed homes at 168 Lynn Road, where a detached house in large grounds could be demolished to make way for the development.

The council received 31 letters of objection to the scheme, including a representation from Downham Town Council, and there were fears the flats would be cramped, out of character with the surrounding area and would cause traffic congestion.

Members of the borough council's development control board meeting voted to visit the site when they met at the end of last month.

The visit was carried out last Thursday and the board voted to refuse the application when the meeting resumed later that day.
