GENEROUS Downham folk helped raise £650 for Chinese Earthquake victims.
A charity night and buffet was arranged at the Szechuan Inn in Railway Road by the manager of the restaurant, Bernard Lee.

Half the cost of each meal was donated to the appeal raising £274.

A similar sum was contributed by the Phoenix Hotel and Chinese Restaurant at Wisbech and the total was topped up with £100 from toy sales and donations.

Guests included the Mayor of Downham, Cllr John Leach, and town council members.

Mr Lee said: "There are many generous people in Downham and they have shown they care for unfortunate people around the world.

"We hope that the money they have donated will help save a lot more lives in China."
