A NEW toy library in the Downham area has come just at the right time for parents, clubs and organisations coping with the credit crunch.
Instead of worrying over the considerable cost of buying new toys to give toddlers valuable play experience, they can join the library for a mere £1 and have access to a range of toys which can be hired for a week or a fortnight.

Downham and District Toy Library has been set up through an O2 It's Your Community grant, and the group's Jo Tagg, has applied for additional funding through another community grant with the aim of providing regular library sessions in more rural locations, possibly in village halls on the outskirts of the town.

Although the group is still in its infancy, it's hoped to organise regular sessions, where children can explore the toys and involve themselves with messy play while parents or carers browse through the toy catalogues before choosing a toy.

The toy library sessions are on Wednesdays at Fincham Village Hall, 2-4 pm starting on October 15; and on Fridays at St Edmund's Church Hall in Downham, 2-4pm starting on October 17.

At these sessions toys can be tried, hired or returned. The team are still looking for volunteers to help customers complete forms and generally help parents at the sessions.

If you are free on a Wednesday or a Friday afternoon then contact Jo on 07850 097235 in the evenings/weekends or by email jotagg@live.com
