DRIVING rain in the Downham area prompted eight emergency calls in just half-an-hour on Sunday.
Fire crews were inundated with 999 calls from around 6pm and rushed to help residents with flooded homes all over the town.

Three crews and a fire officer got to work and pumps were used to clear the most waterlogged properties.

Among the areas most affected by the wet weather were Howdale Road, Maple Road, The Towers, Porter Street, The Paddocks, Paradise Road, Railway Road and Stowfields.

A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the problems had all been caused by the "sheer volume" of water.

After a series of exceptionally wet days in West Norfolk last week, more rain is forecast for today and Friday.
