DROWNED student Jonathon "Jonno" Barber's parents welcomed the "accidental death" verdict at yesterday's inquest and said it was "the best outcome for all concerned".
Carolyn and Nick Barber attended the hearing in Swaffham, along with surviving son Alex "A.J.", other relatives and close family friends.

Mrs Barber said: "We never have held anyone responsible for it. It was purely an accident and it was tragic it happened but it's certainly the best result we could have in the circumstances."

Mr Barber added: "The wind was to blame – and it was a tragedy it blew him down the riverbank."

They again thanked the many friends who joined in the search and said it was clear they had been "incredibly close" to Jonno.

Mr Barber said he would not want anyone to go through their last six months. "It's been incredibly hard. Under such tragic circumstances you wonder how you get through each day," he said.

Mrs Barber said Alex had "grown up a lot" in that time and was now more caring and aware of what was going on.

Alex said: "It's made me realise that you have to live life to the max and you can't waste a day."

Jonno's girlfriend Louise Lay said: "We have got a bench, with his name, to go on the Howdale. One of our friends has also composed a tune for him which we play at parties."

Chris Dixon said it was good to hear the coroner say officially that nobody was to blame.
