THE Michelle Sherwood cancer fund is £1,211.50 richer thanks to London Marathon runner Sally Whitby.
The fund was set up by chairman Mrs Rosemary Durrant in 1992 after her 25-year-old daughter, Michelle, who was a nurse at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, died of a rare form of cancer.

It has since raised more than £50,000 for cancer charities in the area, including the University of East Anglia's cancer research department.

Mrs Whitby (43), of Ten Mile Bank, decided she would like to help a local charity after embarking on her first marathon which she completed in five hours, one minute.

A member of Ryston Runners in Downham, Mrs Whitby runs Downham-based private hire taxi firm Sallys Cars with her husband, Malcolm, who helped by holding the fort while she finished her punishing training schedule.

Mrs Durrant, of Wimbotsham, was grateful for the money which was presented to her last Monday, and will be used to help cancer patients locally.
