A NEW Year's Eve reveller who smashed a window at a West Norfolk pub and threatened to kill the landlord has escaped an immediate jail sentence.
Anthony Thompson was thrown out of the Bell Inn at Denver by doormen after ruining celebrations by becoming aggressive and attempting to punch a local youth, Norwich Crown Court heard on Thursday.

The 39-year-old, of 67 Norton Street, Birmingham, went away but came back carrying two knives, and threatened to kill the landlord and all the others in the pub.

He rained blows on the door and smashed one of two panes of glass, cutting someone's hand inside, the court was told.

Thompson, who admitted the affray on December 31 last year, told police he had lost his temper.

In mitigation, Katherine Moore said: "There are two sides to him. He is normally hardworking but after consuming too much alcohol he becomes a different person."

Jailing him for 12 months, suspended for two years, Judge Paul Downes warned him he would go straight to prison if he offended again.

He also ordered him to carry out 300-hours unpaid community work, and was given a two-year supervision order.

He must also pay £250 costs and £50 compensation to the pub.
