LYNN Art Club is also marking the 50th anniversary of the death of Walter Dexter, its first president, in its Festival Exhibition running until Saturday, July 26.
And it is hoping to draw in new younger members to keep the club, now in its 62nd year, going.

Treasurer Bob Fraulo said: "We are prepared to help and give demonstrations to encourage young artists which we haven't done before.

"Club members wi
ll be stewarding during the exhibition and that will be a good chance for those interested to ask about joining."

To celebrate Dexter's life and work, current president Jeremy Barlow has produced a painting of Snettisham especially for the exhibition and this is on show with a Dexter picture and other members' paintings in the Old Warehouse gallery at Lynn Arts Centre in King Street.

This tribute complements the major Walter Dexter display in the adjoining Fermoy Gallery during Lynn Festival.

Mr Barlow, an acclaimed Norfolk artist, presented the Harrowing Award to his choice from this year's exhibits, and announced the other highly-commended pictures, at Friday's preview evening.

Liz Falconbridge, visual arts and gallery manager at the arts centre, will announce the visitors' choice of best picture in the exhibition at 4.30pm on the final day.

Mr Fraulo said: "The exhibition is free and all are welcome so that we may celebrate the great artistic achievements of Walter Dexter."

Opening hours are from 10am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 2pm to 6pm on Sunday.

Anyone wanting to inquire about joining the art club can contact Mr Fraulo on 01553 772248.
