FIT and fabulous females at Fakenham sports centre raised around £1,000 for Cancer Research when they took part in this year's Race For Life.
Around 15 members and friends of the Fifty and Beyond (FAB) class took part in the women-only event, held at Houghton Hall last month.

The idea was suggested by Pauline Peters who invited her classmates and friends to tackle the 5km course with her.

She said: "We felt we wanted to do whatever little we could to help. It was very emotional reading the messages on people's backs about loved ones they had lost to cancer. We would never have done it had we not met at the exercise class."

Mrs Lynda Litson added: "We're doing our best to try new things and to grow old disgracefully!"

The group, which met at the centre two years ago, enjoyed the run so much it plans to take part again next year.

Mrs Pat Dodd, the centre's general manager, said: "It's fantastic to see ladies getting fitter and gaining confidence through this fitness. It's not just about exercise either, the ladies have all become really good friends, so the social aspect is at least as important.

"The more we can get to join us, the better. What's wonderful is that the ladies have raised a considerable amount of money for such a worthwhile charity too."

Everyone, including men, are welcome to try an exercise class for free. Call the centre on 01328 850010 for more information.
