COUNCIL planners have visited the proposed site of a controversial £844,000 short-term travellers' site near Fakenham.
Residents, town and parish councillors met with members of North Norfolk Council's planning control board at the site, to the south of the A148 Holt Road.

A formal planning application is expected to be submitted next month and the visit was organised in preparation for its discussion.

The plans, for ten temporary pitches, have faced widespread opposition in the community and some residents feel the result of a parish poll opposing the scheme has been ignored.

A total of £6.9 million has been allocated for gipsy and travellers' sites in the east of England as part of a series of Government grants.

The money will cover the cost of creating four new sites and extending two others, while allowing refurbishment work to be carried out at 12 sites.
