LINNETS
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
Young players need guidance. Don't let them go – loan them out if needs be, there is no substitute for experience.
There is a wealth of experience in East Anglia, so why not use it?
Re: Charlie Defty – I've watched from afar and, from the start of the season till his injury, he and Wazza were excellent.

Did we expect more from Flem and Craney – I don't know the answer to this one, but for sure Charlie has been missed!

When I read about Spriggy's move, it questions the advice he was undoubtedly given, and having seen his performance for Mildenhall, mediocre it was and no more than that.

The Reserves' performance was entertaining and some of their football was a delight to watch, Greg Lake and Elliott Fiddy especially, with the forwards working their socks off with no reward, but a mobile centre back is essential to every team.

Les Morrow, Queensway, Mildenhall.

LEAGUE POSITION

Can I take issue with you (and Radio Norfolk) about the Linnets' position in the league.

Please look at your quote from Keith Webb: "I'm pleased that it's all up to us, and that we haven't got to rely on everyone else."
Totally inaccurate I'm afraid.

Even if Lynn were to win every remaining game (I wish) Team Bath would still get the automatic spot if they also were to win every remaining game.

Team Bath are only two points behind with two games (six points) in hand.

Until they lose at least two of their games in hand they are in the advantageous position.

Lets hope that they have a wobbly spell on the run in and we continue the fine job that Keith is doing.

The sports editor writes: Even if Lynn, as you say, were to win every remaining game, that would include two meetings with Team Bath and one with Halesowen – I think that's what Keith Webb was getting at.

DAVE MANNING

As you know a minute's silence was on held at Lynn Football Club on Saturday in memory of Dave Manning.

This was respected very well but sadly your photographer Roy continued to talk to somebody the whole way through.

You might expect a child to do this but surely a grown adult should show some respect.

Julie Duff (via e-mail)

The editor explains: Firstly Roy (Williamson) apologises if he was drawn into the position of offending anyone during the minute's silence.

Roy is well-known and has around 40 years' experience locally in newspaper photography for the Lynn News, during which he has covered countless Remembrance Day services etc, and as such I can assure you he is always respectful.

Unfortunately on Saturday he was approached by a spectator he knew who started talking to him about the possibility of a career in photography for one of his children.

Roy was not actually facing the players on the pitch and was lured inadvertently into giving what he thought was a quiet and short reply.
No offence was intended and if we did cause offence, once again we apologise.

I personally knew Dave Manning for some years and I feel the paper showed the respect in which he was held from the obituary report in Tuesday's Lynn News.

Malcolm Powell, editor.
