STAFF and pupils at a Dersingham school are celebrating as inspectors remove a notice to improve.
St George's Junior School was issued with the notice in June of last year, but has made significant progress since, with standards and teaching both improving.

Inspectors visited the school again last month and the report has been published, saying they judge the school as satisfactory with good features.

Headteacher Ann Pope said: "I am very proud of what the children have managed to achieve since the last full Ofsted inspection and I think this just proves how far we can go to improve the education of our children."

In the latest report, inspectors said the school had made good progress over the last year and the standards pupils achieve are improving with progress better than it was at the last inspection.

Teachers have a good relationship with pupils whose personal development is good, it added.

Behaviour has been noted as good overall, an improvement on last year, and the school cares well for its pupils.

"I hope this inspection will highlight that the school is making significant progress and that we are committed to delivering the best possible education for each and every one of our pupils," said Mrs Pope.

Norfolk County Council's cabinet member for children's services, Mrs Rosalie Monbiot, said: "I would like to congratulate everyone at St George's for their determination to bring about these improvements."

Last year's Ofsted inspection said the school had required significant improvement as it had been performing "significantly less well" than it could reasonably be expected to perform.

In a letter sent to pupils at the time, the inspector said: "We have asked Mrs Pope, the staff and governing body to help you learn at a faster rate in writing and mathematics, and particularly those of you in years 3 and 4."
