HUNSTANTON Concert Band played in the gardens of Abbey Farm, East Walton, to help raise money to repair the windows of St Mary's Church in the village.
Band member, Bruce Taylor, who lives in East Walton, suggested the idea and Bill and Rachel Lewis offered the gardens of Abbey Farm for the concert.

Other villagers helped provide, cook and serve food for a barbecue.

The band played from its extensive repertoire, including one medley of 32 tunes.

The Rev Ian Whittle thanked everybody for coming and especially those who worked to make the event such a success.

He said prayers and the band provided the accompaniment to two hymns.

Half-an-hour before the concert the success of the event was in doubt as a tremendous downpour greeted band members as they were setting up.

However, the skies cleared and the sun stayed throughout the rest of the afternoon, which was hailed as a great success.

Mr Lewis said: "Once again the village has pulled together.

"We managed to raise £1,266 for the church windows, our best effort to date. Everyone who helped is to be thanked."

Rachel Lewis added: "We served about 140 people, with locally-raised lamb and salads prepared by families in the village.

"Most of those who came were from the village or other local churches, but some came from further away."

Mr Taylor said: "Many of my family came, some from as far away as Worcester, Cleethorpes and even Scotland."
