The management committe of the Friends of Hardwick Road Cemetery in Lynn would like to express their appreciation for all the hard work put in by the volunteers who made the Victorian Family Day in the cemetery on Saturday such a success.
We would also like to express our thanks to the Mayor of West Norfolk who found the event so interesting that he spent three hours from his busy schedule learning more about the cemetery and the aims and ambitions of the Friends of Hardwick Road.
The event raised more than £300, which will go towards the provision of temporary accomodation for a resource centre for the group while we prepare to make our lottery bid for a permanent centre within the cemetery.
It would be remiss of us not to thank the borough council for allowing us to hold the event in the cemetery and to the grounds maintenance staff who have worked extremly hard over the last couple of weeks cutting the grass in the cemetery.
For those who missed the event there is another opportunity to learn more of the town's Victorian past through some of the more noteworthy memorials in the cemetery from renowned local historian Dr Paul Richards who will be leading a guided tour of the cemetery on Sunday, starting at 2pm from the war memorial in the northern part of the cemetery.
