Local government reorganisation for Norfolk: This has nothing to do with efficiency or local democracy and everything to do with Government centralising administration.
It is much easier to order two or three councils about, wards become bigger so less access to a councillor for the public, increasingly-remote bureaucracy, and, once again, the principle theme of this Government, namely "we know what's best for you". The more varied opinions we receive then the greater opportunity for us, the Government, to impose our solution.
It might be more palatable if the move was accompanied by devolving more power to parish councils, but I doubt that will happen.
The last reorganisation took an awful long time to settle and the savings mooted were, to say the least, illusory. And, in these difficult times, do we want our council fighting for its future rather than its poor unfortunate council tax payers?
If we cannot have the status quo lets support the two council idea, although frankly what happens about the eastern side of the county is immaterial to me. As you know, for most Norwich-based organisations the world ends west of Dereham!

- Although we do not currently live in West Norfolk, my husband and I hope to retire to West Norfolk by the end of the year, and therefore feel our views are as valid as the next man's. We are both in favour of the east/west split.

- FOLLOWING the Lynn News article about the new council options we wrote to the Local Government Review Team to say that we favour the east/west split, as preferred by West Norfolk Council.
