It has been obvious for some years that the traffic network in Lynn is hopelessly overloaded, particularly for traffic using London Road.
This will only get worse with the potential increases which will arise from the completion of the Nar Ouse Regenration scheme and the possible impact on traffic if the marina goes ahead, the collapse in land values must impact on the viability of the current scheme, and yet despite the obvious urgency, all we have is a study.

What we need is something that could reduce commuter traffic and also provide an alternative for shoppers coming into the town.

New roads are fraught with difficulty but I think there is one idea which could have a beneficial effect, reducing traffic and making it easy for those who work in the town to get in and out.

The railway line which is currently used to cart sand from Leziate could be converted to a park-and-ride tram system.

The terminus could be along side the bypass, convenient for workers on the Hardwick estate, with the major benefit for commuters and shoppers from the south and east who would avoid the difficulties of London and Gayton Roads but with a shuttle journey to the station and if funds were available then extend the Tram system up Wellesley Street and into the bus station.

At least its a thought.

Hillcrest, Harpley
