Review gets the bird

Secretary Bird review by Stephen Hayter: I feel I must take issue with the theatre review in Friday, October 31 issue.
I was among the audience with a group of friends and we really enjoyed the performance as did all the others we spoke to in the interval. The issue I have is that surely the job of a critic is to critise objectively the performance of the actors, directors, technicians etc who make a production work or fail and not to let personal preference cloud their judgement.
It seems a very unfair comment to condemn a play as “old-fashioned”. Are only modern plays of value now? Would Shakespeare be seen as “old- fashioned”?
In actual fact if he was paying attention to the dialogue I’m surprised he didn’t realise that the story is as relevant today as when it was writtenm, timeless in fact. We’d like to congratulate all the people involved with the production who gave us a very enjoyable evening out.
