An obviously-infuriated Ben Colson, (MD Norfolk Green) has called upon Lynn town planners to initiate a major review of the traffic management as a result of the utter chaos caused by Tuesday's lorry fire on the A149 near the Hardwick roundabout.
Mr Colson may well feel that the snarl-up that greets every car/bus/lorry driver trying to get to work or the shops every day can be eliminated by a magic wand waved by the town planners but I feel sure the solution we all seek is in our own hands.

We sit in our individual “tin boxes” clinging grimly to our steering wheels and grinding our teeth, wasting time and fuel as we inch our way into the town, oblivious to the fact that we should be trying to reduce the number of vehicles making this journey every morning and evening rather than build more roads to accommodate them. A quick glance around you as you sit fuming will reveal that almost every single vehicle creeping into town contains one person. Surely there are ways that workers and shoppers can co-ordinate journeys to save money and time every morning rather than rushing individually, like lemmings, to join the daily chaos. Maybe our planners could initiate an environmentally-friendly “car sharing scheme” to try to get employers to promote it among staff. Failing that, maybe we should all make better use of Mr Colson’s excellent bus service.

S. Mackinder, Denver
