The Spring Bank Holiday weekend has brought for me the 25th anniversary of moving to West Norfolk from my former home at the other side of the country.
it is no secret that I was recovering from a long and gruelling illness at the time, and was still far from well when I arrived in Heacham on May 24, 1984.
However, I immediately felt at home, and soon regained my health, being able to begin worki
ng again within a very short time.
In fact I have had a far more varied and fullfilling career in languages and music than I would have dared to believe possible – I certainly never expected to become chairman of two twinning clubs at the same time!
I have enjoyed taking part in the Hunstanton Christmas day swim and presenting the Heacham Music Marathon in each of the years since I have lived here, and hope to be able to continue to do so for many years to come.
At this significant moment, I should like to express my sincere thanks to all who have been my colleagues, pupils and students, audiences and supporters, but most particularly my friends in this delightful part of the world.
I look forward greatly to embarking on a second quarter of a century as a resident of West Norfolk.

Leaside,
