We fully support the article regarding the dangers of crossing the A10 and sympathise with West Winch residents during their current inconvenience.
I would like to add to this by pointing out that the villagers of Setchey also suffer the same dangers from speeding cars on the A10, but in our case it is relentless.

We have no option but to cross the dangerous road to gain access to a bus goin
g in the direction of Downham or vice a versa to Lynn depending on which side of the road you live on.

In our case if we want to go to Lynn in a car we have the option of charging out at speed when a gap appears in the traffic to ensure we do not have a vehicle crash into the back of us as they speed around the corner.

To go in the opposite direction to Downham we have to first turn left as if we are going to Lynn, turn right into the first available turning, turn around and then indicated left to Downham because to do otherwise is to risk an accident.

Recently 40mph flashing signs have been added just before and just after Setchey which are welcomed, which would alert conscientious drivers to slow down, but mainly it is not backed up by speed cameras although they pretend they are there due to dummy signs, so regular speeders know they can get away with it.

I understand that people have been injured in Setchey and I have been told people were killed on this part of the A10 before we lived here.

My neighbour has requested a crossing of some sort but been told basically, not in so many words, that not enough people had been injured or killed.

There is a reason for this nobody dares to cross the road unless it is absolutely necessary.

We have a mixture of families living here some with children some elderly, my immediate neighbour is elderly, cannot see or hear very well, likes to be independent, but takes her life in her hands everytime she goes out to catch a bus depending on which direction she is going.

We wave at our neighbours across the north\south divide but that is as much as we can do.

Not much of a village community.

When I come out of the front of my house with my seven-year-old daughter who likes to run ahead of me, she gets beeped by speeding lorry drivers because they suddenly become aware of the danger she might be in as they are going too fast around the corner.

How dare they. she is on the pavement, they are shocked because if she missed the pavement or they went up the pavement as happens, they would hit her.

We have tracks of large vehicles imprinted on the pavement, if they were going at the correct speed (40mph in this area in my view is too fast) they would not need to be afraid!

Plans for a bypass for the A10 apparently have been muted for years, apparently in competition with the A47.

I use both these roads frequently, the volume of traffic on the A10 far outweighs that on the A47 in the area we live in.

Again we sympathise with West Winch residents, but at least their problem is temporary, ours is terminal.
