West Norfolk deserves a better TV service
I AM a resident of West Norfolk, having lived in Snettisham for the past ten years. I am happy to live here and consider myself fortunate to live in such a peaceful and beautiful part of the country.
However, there is one element of living here which does irritate me (and I believe many others too), and this is to do with the difficulty in obtaining Anglia television and BBC East, or at least obtaining it with good reception.
After all, I thought that the Lynn area was part of East Anglia and would naturally fall within the boundaries of Anglia TV and Look East, for regional news.
I can obtain the above from the Sandringham relay station but have found that the quality of the reception can vary, depending on the weather conditions.
I understand that most people in this area have to receive Yorkshire Television or Central, BBC North or BBC East Midlands and have little or nothing to do with West Norfolk.
I wonder why this situation has been allowed to go on for so long and as a TV licence payer feel that this area has been short changed by the powers that be, by providing us with an inferior service.
I wonder how Yorkshire/Leicestershire folk would feel if they could only receive Anglia TV and BBC East?
I understand that for some reason this area is beyond the transmission boundary of the Tacolneston transmitter near Norwich and although some places receive their signal from the Sandy Heath transmitter in Bedfordshire, this provides local, (Anglia West) news mainly for Bedford, Cambridge, Northampton, Peterborough, Stevenage and Milton Keynes and has little to do with West Norfolk.
My argument is, that we deserve better in West Norfolk and wonder what can be done to rectify a very unsatisfactory situation.
I know that this topic has been rumbling on and off for years and feel that it is tIme for the TV companies to stop sidelining the situation and fund, and provide a proper transmitter for digital television in West Norfolk, broadcasting Anglia (East) and BBC East for the people of West Norfolk.
I am sure that those who are interested in local/regional TV news would prefer it from East Anglia, rather than hear what is happening in Hull, Sheffield, Lincoln, Nottingham or Leicester.
