HELPING the Lynn News Hunstanton Lifeboat Appeal smash its way through the £90,000 mark are generous members of West Norfolk's Oddfellows.
The Lynn and West Norfolk district of the social group has presented a fantastic £500 to the appeal for a new inshore lifeboat at the RNLI station.
Every year, the club’s immediate past provincial grand master nominates a charity to receive a donation from the lodge’s benevolent fund, and this year Nick Beckwith (47) chose the Hunstanton Lifeboat Appeal.
“The appeal is very important, not only to local people but also to visitors to the coast,” he said. “The new lifeboat will make the job of the Hunstanton crew easier and help them save more lives.”
Mr Beckwith presented the cheque to Lynn News editor Malcolm Powell on Wednesday, during a social meeting at Lynn’s Globe Hotel.
The Oddfellows, who came to Lynn in 1840, arrange many social events across West Norfolk. Anyone wanting to find out more can contact secretary Albert Eaglen on 01553 776030.
l Docking Jigsaw Puzzle Club has also donated £45 to the appeal.
The club, which is run by Mrs June Cave, allows members to borrow puzzles, complete them and exchange them every month.
She doesn’t charge for the service, but invites members to make donations for a different charity every year.
“I chose the lifeboat appeal as I think it’s a wonderful cause,” she said.
