Local members of the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club have handed £2,000 to the £125,000 Lynn News-backed Hunstanton Lifeboat Appeal after raising the money at their biggest event of the calendar – the Stradsett Vintage Rally – at Stradsett Park in May.

The East Anglia branch of the club presented the cheque at its annual meeting on Thursday, when the proceeds from two other annual events were also donated.

A bumper £960 from a vintage tractor road run in the Beachamwell area in June went to the East Anglian Air Ambulance, and £240 from its vintage working weekend in September was presented to Sir Jeremy Bagge, from Stradsett Hall, in aid of the estate's St Mary's Church.

The club has previously lent its support to the lifeboat appeal after donating £150 raised from its working weekend last September.

"We read about the appeal in the Lynn News last year and decided to support it as it is a good local cause," said chairman Peter Thorpe.

"As a committee we also decided to hold our main event for the appeal as well."

The rally, which is being held in aid of disability charity Break next year, was once again a huge success with hundreds of people paying a visit and lots of engines, tractors, classic cars, motorbikes and commercials on show.
